14 The Pharisees, who loved money,(A) heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.(B) 15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves(C) in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts.(D) What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

16 “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John.(E) Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached,(F) and everyone is forcing their way into it. 17 It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.(G)

14 Now the Pharisees, who love money, had been listening to all this and began to ridicule Jesus.[a] 15 So he told them, “You try to justify yourselves in front of people, but God knows your hearts, because what is highly valued by people is detestable to God.
16 “The Law and the Prophets were fulfilled[b] with John. Since then, the good news about the kingdom of God is being proclaimed, and everybody enters it enthusiastically.[c] 17 However, it is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one stroke of a letter in the Law to be dropped.
