³¹ But he said to him, ^(A)‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, ^(B)neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ”

³ But even if our gospel is veiled, ^(A)it is veiled to those who are perishing,

²³ So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, ^(A)to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus ^(B)from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.

²⁸ Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to become a Christian.”

^8 (A)And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading ^(B)concerning the things of the kingdom of God.

¹¹ Knowing, therefore, ^(A)the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.

^10 (A)But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, ^11 (B)because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

⁴³ Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” ⁴⁴ And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with ^(A)graveclothes, and ^(B)his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

The Plot to Kill Jesus^(C)

⁴⁵ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, ^(D)and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went away to the Pharisees and ^(E)told them the things Jesus did. ^47 (F)Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, ^(G)“What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”

⁴⁹ And one of them, ^(H)Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, ^50 (I)nor do you consider that it is expedient for ^[a]us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” ⁵¹ Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, ⁵² and ^(J)not for that nation only, but ^(K)also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.

⁵³ Then, from that day on, they plotted to ^(L)put Him to death.
