²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’

^36 (A)He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the ^(B)wrath of God abides on him.”

¹¹ For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits.

Loving God Under Trials

^12 (A)Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive ^(B)the crown of life ^(C)which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

¹⁰ The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone ^(A)where^[a] the beast and the false prophet are. And they ^(B)will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Rich Oppressors Will Be Judged

5 Come now, you ^(A)rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! ² Your ^(B)riches ^[a]are corrupted, and ^(C)your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. ^(D)You have heaped up treasure in the last days. ⁴ Indeed ^(E)the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and ^(F)the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of ^[b]Sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived on the earth in pleasure and ^[c]luxury; you have ^[d]fattened your hearts ^[e]as in a day of slaughter. ⁶ You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you.

Be Patient and Persevering

⁷ Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.

⁴ so that ^(A)we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God ^(B)for your patience and faith ^(C)in all your persecutions and ^[a]tribulations that you endure, ⁵ which is ^(D)manifest^[b] evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, ^(E)for which you also suffer; ^6 (F)since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with ^[c]tribulation those who trouble you, ⁷ and to give you who are troubled ^(G)rest with us when ^(H)the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, ⁸ in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. ^9 (I)These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and ^(J)from the glory of His power, ¹⁰ when He comes, in that Day, ^(K)to be ^(L)glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who ^[d]believe, because our testimony among you was believed.

⁴⁶ And ^(A)these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
