11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and (A)withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

12 (B)Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive (C)the crown of life, (D)which God has promised to those who love him.

Warning to the Rich

Come now, (A)you rich, weep and howl for the (B)miseries that are coming upon you. (C)Your riches have rotted and (D)your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. (E)You have laid up treasure (F)in the last days. Behold, (G)the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and (H)the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of (I)the Lord of hosts. (J)You have lived on the earth in luxury and (K)in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in (L)a day of slaughter. You have condemned and (M)murdered (N)the righteous person. He does not resist you.

Patience in Suffering

Be patient, therefore, brothers,[a] until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives (O)the early and the late rains.

Therefore (A)we ourselves boast about you (B)in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith (C)in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring.

The Judgment at Christ's Coming

This is (D)evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be (E)considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— since indeed God considers it (F)just (G)to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant (H)relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when (I)the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven (J)with his mighty angels (K)in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those (L)who do not know God and on those who (M)do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of (N)eternal destruction, (O)away from[a] the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, 10 (P)when he comes on (Q)that day (R)to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our (S)testimony to you (T)was believed.
