²⁴ For this my son ^(A)was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.

³ Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is ^(A)born ^(B)again^[a] he cannot ^(C)see the kingdom of God.”

Rivers of Living Water

^37 (A)On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ^(B)“If anyone thirsts, let him ^(C)come to me and drink. ³⁸ Whoever believes in me, ^(D)as^[a] the Scripture has said, ^(E)‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of ^(F)living water.’” ³⁹ Now ^(G)this he said about the Spirit, ^(H)whom those who believed in him were to receive, ^(I)for as yet the Spirit had not been ^(J)given, ^(K)because Jesus was not yet glorified.

¹⁰ The thief comes only to steal and ^(A)kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

⁷ Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for ^(A)if I do not go away, ^(B)the Helper will not come to you. But ^(C)if ^(D)I go, ^(E)I will send him to you. ^8 (F)And when he comes, he will ^(G)convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: ⁹ concerning sin, ^(H)because they do not believe in me; ^10 (I)concerning righteousness, ^(J)because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; ^11 (K)concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world ^(L)is judged.

¹² “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. ¹³ When ^(M)the Spirit of truth comes, ^(N)he will ^(O)guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but ^(P)whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. ¹⁴ He will ^(Q)glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

³⁷ Now when ^(A)they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, ^(B)what shall we do?” ³⁸ And Peter said to them, ^(C)“Repent and ^(D)be baptized every one of you ^(E)in the name of Jesus Christ ^(F)for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive ^(G)the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For ^(H)the promise is for you and ^(I)for your children and for all ^(J)who are far off, everyone ^(K)whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

⁴ We were ^(A)buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as ^(B)Christ was raised from the dead by ^(C)the glory of the Father, we too might walk in ^(D)newness of life.

⁵ For ^(E)if we have been united with him in ^(F)a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. ⁶ We know that ^(G)our old self^{[a] (H)}was crucified with him in order that ^(I)the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. ⁷ For ^(J)one who has died ^(K)has been set free^[b] from sin. ⁸ Now ^(L)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. ⁹ We know that ^(M)Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; ^(N)death no longer has dominion over him. ¹⁰ For the death he died he died to sin, ^(O)once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. ¹¹ So you also must consider yourselves ^(P)dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

¹⁴ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him ^(A)of whom they have never heard?^[a] And how are they to hear ^(B)without someone preaching?

²² For ^(A)as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
