¹⁷ “But ^(A)when he ^(B)came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger!

²⁸ Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

⁴ But^[a] God, being ^(A)rich in mercy, ^(B)because of the great love with which he loved us, ⁵ even ^(C)when we were dead in our trespasses, ^(D)made us alive together with Christ—^(E)by grace you have been saved—

¹⁴ for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, ^(A)I have sinned against ^(B)heaven and before you. ^19 (C)I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’

¹¹ And ^(A)I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them ^(B)blaspheme, and ^(C)in raging fury against them I ^(D)persecuted them even to foreign cities.

Paul Tells of His Conversion

¹² “In this connection ^(E)I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. ¹³ At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me and those who journeyed with me. ¹⁴ And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me ^(F)in the Hebrew language,^[a] ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ ¹⁵ And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. ¹⁶ But rise and ^(G)stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, ^(H)to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, ^17 (I)delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—^(J)to whom I ^(K)am sending you ^18 (L)to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from ^(M)the power of Satan to God, that they may receive ^(N)forgiveness of sins and ^(O)a place among those who are sanctified ^(P)by faith in me.’

¹⁹ “Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to ^(Q)the heavenly vision,

²⁹ And the jailer^[a] called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he ^(A)fell down before Paul and Silas. ³⁰ Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, ^(B)what must I do to be ^(C)saved?”

⁴ But when ^(A)the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, ^(B)not because of works done by us in righteousness, but ^(C)according to his own mercy, by ^(D)the washing of regeneration and ^(E)renewal of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he ^(F)poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

³⁷ Now when ^(A)they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, ^(B)what shall we do?”
