Luke 14:9

³¹^(B)While the word was still in the king’s mouth, ^(C)a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! ³²And ^(D)they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven ^[a]times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”

³³That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.

Nebuchadnezzar Praises God

³⁴And ^(E)at the end of the ^[b]time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him ^(F)who lives forever:

For His dominion is ^(G)an everlasting dominion,
And His kingdom is from generation to generation.

I sit in the seat of gods,

^(D)Yet you are a man, and not a god,
Though you set your heart as the heart of a god
³(Behold, ^(E)you are wiser than Daniel!
There is no secret that can be hidden from you!
⁴With your wisdom and your understanding
You have gained ^(F)riches for yourself,
And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;
⁵^(G)By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches,
And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),”

⁶‘Therefore thus says the Lord God:

“Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god,
⁷Behold, therefore, I will bring ^(H)strangers against you,
^(I)The most terrible of the nations;
And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom,
And defile your splendor.
⁸They shall throw you down into the ^(J)Pit,
And you shall die the death of the slain
In the midst of the seas.

⁹“Will you still ^(K)say before him who slays you,
‘I am a god’?
But you shall be a man, and not a god,
In the hand of him who slays you.
¹⁰You shall die the death of ^(L)the uncircumcised
By the hand of aliens;
For I have spoken,” says the Lord God.’ ”

⁶So Haman came in, and the king asked him, “What shall be done for the man whom the king delights to honor?”

Now Haman thought in his heart, “Whom would the king delight to honor more than ^(A)me?” ⁷And Haman answered the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, ⁸let a royal robe be brought which the king has worn, and ^(B)a horse on which the king has ridden, which has a royal ^[a]crest placed on its head. ⁹Then let this robe and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that he may array the man whom the king delights to honor. Then ^[b]parade him on horseback through the city square, ^(C)and proclaim before him: ‘Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’ ”

¹⁰Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robe and the horse, as you have suggested, and do so for Mordecai the Jew who sits within the king’s gate! Leave nothing undone of all that you have spoken.”

¹¹So Haman took the robe and the horse, arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”

¹²Afterward Mordecai went back to the king’s gate. But Haman ^(D)hurried to his house, mourning ^(E)and with his head covered.
