⁵ Then he said to them, “If one of you has a child^[a] or an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on a Sabbath day?”^(A)

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him and said, “You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it to water?^(A)

⁴ “When you come upon your enemy’s ox or donkey going astray, you shall bring it back.^(A)

⁵ “When you see the donkey of one who hates you struggling under its burden and you would hold back from setting it free, you must help to set it free.^(B)

¹¹ He said to them, “Suppose one of you has only one sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath; will you not lay hold of it and lift it out?^{(A) 12} How much more valuable is a human being than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”^(B)

²⁴ this is the interpretation, O king, and it is a decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king:
