⁵ Then He answered them, saying, ^(A)“Which of you, having a ^[a]donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”

¹⁵ The Lord then answered him and said, ^[a]“Hypocrite! ^(A)Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?

^4 (A)“If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. ^5 (B)If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it.

¹¹ Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? ¹² Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
