²⁸ For ^(A)which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—

²² And ^(A)you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. ^(B)But he who endures to the end will be saved.

¹⁹ But Joshua said to the people, ^(A)“You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a ^(B)holy God. He is ^(C)a jealous God; ^(D)He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. ^20 (E)If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, ^(F)then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.”

²¹ And the people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve the Lord!”

²² So Joshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that ^(G)you have chosen the Lord for yourselves, to serve Him.”

And they said, “We are witnesses!”

²³ “Now therefore,” he said, ^(H)“put away the foreign gods which are among you, and ^(I)incline your heart to the Lord God of Israel.”

²⁴ And the people ^(J)said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey!”

³³ So likewise, whoever of you ^(A)does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

²² But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink ^(A)the cup that I am about to drink, ^[a]and be baptized with ^(B)the baptism that I am baptized with?”

They said to Him, “We are able.”

²³ So He said to them, ^(C)“You will indeed drink My cup, ^[b]and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.”

¹³ Then Paul answered, ^(A)“What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

^4 (A)For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know. ⁵ For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, ^(B)lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and ^(C)our labor might be in vain.
