²⁷ And ^(A)whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

^38 (A)And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Take Up the Cross and Follow Him^(A)

^23 (B)Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross ^[a]daily, and follow Me. ^24 (C)For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. ^25 (D)For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

²¹ Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, ^(A)sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have ^(B)treasure in heaven; and come, ^(C)take up the cross, and follow Me.”

Take Up the Cross and Follow Him^(A)

³⁴ When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, ^(B)“Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. ³⁵ For ^(C)whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. ³⁶ For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? ³⁷ Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

^24 (B)Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and ^(C)follow Me. ²⁵ For ^(D)whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. ²⁶ For what ^(E)profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or ^(F)what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹² Yes, and ^(A)all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, ^(A)exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ^(B)“We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”

²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when ^(A)tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately ^(B)he stumbles.
