Luke 14:25-33
New King James Version
Leaving All to Follow Christ(A)
25 Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them, 26 (B)“If anyone comes to Me (C)and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, (D)yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And (E)whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For (F)which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you (G)does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.

The World’s Hatred
18 (A)“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet (C)because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, (D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. (E)If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But (F)all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

Jesus Warns and Comforts His Disciples
16 “These things I have spoken to you, that you (A)should not be made to stumble. 2 (B)They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming (C)that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. 3 And (D)these things they will do [a]to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. 4 But these things I have told you, that when [b]the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.
“And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
