¹⁶ Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham,^(A) whom Satan^(B) has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

⁸ Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’^(A) For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

²⁷ Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man,^(A) not man for the Sabbath.^(B)

²⁶ and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil,^(A) who has taken them captive to do his will.

²⁶ “Fellow children of Abraham^(A) and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation^(B) has been sent.

⁴⁴ You belong to your father, the devil,^(A) and you want to carry out your father’s desires.^(B) He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.^(C)

⁹ Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.^(A)

¹¹ and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years.^(A) She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. ¹² When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!^(A) For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’^[a]”^(B)

¹² And he is then also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

¹³ It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise^(A) that he would be heir of the world,^(B) but through the righteousness that comes by faith.^{(C) 14} For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless,^{(D) 15} because the law brings wrath.^(E) And where there is no law there is no transgression.^(F)
