Be Ready for His Coming

35 (A)Gird up (B)your loins, and keep your lamps lit. 36 And be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find (C)awake when he comes; truly I say to you, that (D)he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. 38 (E)Whether he comes in the [a]second watch, or even in the [b]third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

39 (F)But [c]be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be [d](G)broken into. 40 (H)You too, be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not [e]expect.”

35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning; 36 and be ye yourselves like unto men looking for their lord, when he shall return from the marriage feast; that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may straightway open unto him. 37 Blessed are those [a]servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and shall come and serve them. 38 And if he shall come in the second watch, and if in the third, and find them so, blessed are those servants. 39 [b]But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have left his house to be [c]broken through. 40 Be ye also ready: for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh.
