⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”^(A)

¹⁰ At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,

²¹ “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents^(A) and have them put to death.^{(B) 22} You will be hated by everyone because of me,^(C) but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.^(D)

² “On that day, I will banish the names of the idols^(A) from the land, and they will be remembered no more,”^(B) declares the Lord Almighty. “I will remove both the prophets^(C) and the spirit of impurity from the land. ³ And if anyone still prophesies, their father and mother, to whom they were born, will say to them, ‘You must die, because you have told lies^(D) in the Lord’s name.’ Then their own parents will stab the one who prophesies.^(E)

⁴ “On that day every prophet will be ashamed^(F) of their prophetic vision. They will not put on a prophet’s garment^(G) of hair^(H) in order to deceive.^{(I) 5} Each will say, ‘I am not a prophet. I am a farmer; the land has been my livelihood since my youth.^[a]’^{(J) 6} If someone asks, ‘What are these wounds on your body^[b]?’ they will answer, ‘The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.’
