^52 (A)For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three.

At Iconium

14 Now it happened in Iconium that they went together to the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of the Jews and of the ^(A)Greeks believed. ² But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and ^[a]poisoned their ^[b]minds against the brethren. ³ Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, ^(B)who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and ^(C)wonders to be done by their hands.

⁴ But the multitude of the city was ^(D)divided: part sided with the Jews, and part with the ^(E)apostles.

²⁴ And ^(A)some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.

The World’s Hatred

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. ^19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet ^(C)because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, ^(D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. ^(E)If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But ^(F)all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not ^[a]keep the Sabbath.”

Others said, ^(A)“How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And ^(B)there was a division among them.

⁴³ Now when the congregation had broken up, many of the Jews and devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking to them, ^(A)persuaded them to continue in ^(B)the grace of God.

⁴⁴ On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. ⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they ^(C)opposed the things spoken by Paul. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, ^(D)“It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but ^(E)since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, ^(F)we turn to the Gentiles.

^2 (A)They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming ^(B)that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.

¹⁹ Therefore ^(A)there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. ²⁰ And many of them said, ^(B)“He has a demon and is ^[a]mad. Why do you listen to Him?”

²¹ Others said, “These are not the words of one who has a demon. ^(C)Can a demon ^(D)open the eyes of the blind?”

⁴¹ Others said, “This is ^(A)the Christ.”

But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? ^42 (B)Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, ^(C)where David was?” ⁴³ So ^(D)there was a division among the people because of Him.
