Boasting About Tomorrow

¹³ Come now, you who say, ^(A)“Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— ¹⁴ yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For ^(B)you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. ¹⁵ Instead you ought to say, ^(C)“If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

³² What do I gain if, humanly speaking, ^(A)I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, ^(B)“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

^9 (A)Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. ^(B)Walk in the ways of your heart and ^(C)the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things ^(D)God will bring you into judgment.

^5 (A)You have lived on the earth in luxury and ^(B)in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in ^(C)a day of slaughter.

^19 (A)Their end is destruction, ^(B)their god is their belly, and ^(C)they glory in their shame, with ^(D)minds set on earthly things.

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

^19 (A)“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where ^(B)moth and rust^[a] destroy and where thieves ^(C)break in and steal, ^20 (D)but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
