“So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.(A) 10 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asked for[a] a fish, would give a snake instead of a fish? 12 Or if the child asked for an egg, would give a scorpion? 13 If you, then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit[b] to those who ask him!”

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask what I should give you.”(A) Solomon said to God, “You have shown great and steadfast love to my father David and have made me succeed him as king.(B) O Lord God, let your promise to my father David now be fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.(C) 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of yours?”(D) 11 God answered Solomon, “Because this was in your heart and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you and have not even asked for long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may rule my people over whom I have made you king,(E) 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.”(F) 13 So Solomon came from[a] the high place at Gibeon, from the tent of meeting, to Jerusalem. And he reigned over Israel.

Faith and Wisdom

My brothers and sisters, whenever you face various trials, consider it all joy,(A) because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance complete its work, so that you may be complete and whole, lacking in nothing.

If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you.(B)
