⁵² Woe to you ^(A)lawyers! ^(B)For you have taken away the key of ^(C)knowledge. You ^(D)did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.”

¹³ “But woe ^(A)to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you ^(B)shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you ^(C)neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.^[a]

⁷ For ^(A)the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people^[a] should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

¹⁷ But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them ^(A)to speak no more to anyone in this name.” ¹⁸ So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.

⁴⁵ One of ^(A)the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.” ⁴⁶ And he said, “Woe to you ^(B)lawyers also! For ^(C)you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

²⁴ So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, ^(A)“Give glory to God. We know that ^(B)this man is a sinner.” ²⁵ He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I ^(C)was blind, now I see.” ²⁶ They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” ²⁷ He answered them, ^(D)“I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” ²⁸ And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but ^(E)we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, ^(F)we do not know where he comes from.” ³⁰ The man answered, “Why, this is ^(G)an amazing thing! ^(H)You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. ³¹ We know that ^(I)God does not listen to sinners, but ^(J)if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. ³² Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. ^33 (K)If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” ³⁴ They answered him, ^(L)“You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they ^(M)cast him out.

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, ^(A)“Have you also been deceived? ^48 (B)Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.” ^50 (C)Nicodemus, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, ^51 (D)“Does our law judge a man without first ^(E)giving him a hearing and learning what he does?” ⁵² They replied, ^(F)“Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that ^(G)no prophet arises from Galilee.”

⁴⁰ and ^(A)when they had called in the apostles, ^(B)they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

^39 (A)And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” ⁴⁰ He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, ^(B)the very stones would cry out.”
