¹⁸ If Satan^(A) is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebul.

²⁶ If Satan^(A) drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?

³¹ And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.^{(A) 32} Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age^(B) or in the age to come.^(C)

³³ “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.^{(D) 34} You brood of vipers,^(E) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks^(F) what the heart is full of.

⁵ Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.^(A) Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. ⁶ The tongue also is a fire,^(B) a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body,^(C) sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.^(D)

⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, ⁸ but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.^(E)

¹⁵ But some of them said, “By Beelzebul,^(A) the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.”^(B)

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!^(A) For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’^[a]”^(B)
