Luke 10:25-37

²⁵ Then behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tempted Him, saying, “Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

²⁶ And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”

²⁷ And he answered and said, “You shall love your Lord God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your thought, and your neighbor as yourself.”

²⁸ Then He said to him, “You have answered right. Do this, and you shall live.”

²⁹ But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, “Who, then, is my neighbor?”

³⁰ And Jesus answered, and said, “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves. And they robbed him of his clothes and wounded him and departed, leaving him half-dead.

³¹ “Now by chance, a certain priest came down that same way. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

³² “And likewise, a Levite, when he had come near the place, went and looked, and passed by on the other side.

³³ “Then a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came near him. And when he saw him, he had compassion on him.

³⁴ “And he went to him and bound up his wounds and poured in oil and wine. And he put him on his own beast and brought him to an Inn and made provision for him.

³⁵ “And the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. And whatever more you spend I will repay when I return.’

³⁶ “Now, which of these three do you think was a neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

³⁷ And he said, “The one who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, and do likewise.”
