Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two(A)(B)(C)

10 After this the Lord(D) appointed seventy-two[a] others(E) and sent them two by two(F) ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.(G) 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.(H) 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.(I) 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.(J) Do not move around from house to house.

8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.(K) 9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God(L) has come near to you.’ 10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you.(M) Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’(N) 12 I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom(O) than for that town.(P)

13 “Woe to you,(Q) Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth(R) and ashes. 14 But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum,(S) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[b]

16 “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”(T)

17 The seventy-two(U) returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”(V)

18 He replied, “I saw Satan(W) fall like lightning from heaven.(X) 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes(Y) and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”(Z)

21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AA) Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father.(AB) No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”(AC)

23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”(AD)

The Parable of the Good Samaritan(AE)

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(AF)

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c];(AG) and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d]”(AH)

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”(AI)

29 But he wanted to justify himself,(AJ) so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.(AK) 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan,(AL) as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha(AM) opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary,(AN) who sat at the Lord’s feet(AO) listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(AP) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried(AQ) and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[f](AR) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus Envia Setenta e Dois Discípulos

10 Depois disso o Senhor designou outros setenta e dois[a] e os enviou dois a dois, adiante dele, a todas as cidades e lugares para onde ele estava prestes a ir. 2 E lhes disse: “A colheita é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos. Portanto, peçam ao Senhor da colheita que mande trabalhadores para a sua colheita. 3 Vão! Eu os estou enviando como cordeiros entre lobos. 4 Não levem bolsa, nem saco de viagem, nem sandálias; e não saúdem ninguém pelo caminho.

5 “Quando entrarem numa casa, digam primeiro: Paz a esta casa. 6 Se houver ali um homem de paz, a paz de vocês repousará sobre ele; se não, ela voltará para vocês. 7 Fiquem naquela casa, e comam e bebam o que lhes derem, pois o trabalhador merece o seu salário. Não fiquem mudando de casa em casa.

8 “Quando entrarem numa cidade e forem bem recebidos, comam o que for posto diante de vocês. 9 Curem os doentes que ali houver e digam-lhes: O Reino de Deus está próximo de vocês. 10 Mas quando entrarem numa cidade e não forem bem recebidos, saiam por suas ruas e digam: 11 Até o pó da sua cidade, que se apegou aos nossos pés, sacudimos contra vocês. Fiquem certos disto: o Reino de Deus está próximo. 12 Eu lhes digo: Naquele dia haverá mais tolerância para Sodoma do que para aquela cidade.

13 “Ai de você, Corazim! Ai de você, Betsaida! Porque se os milagres que foram realizados entre vocês o fossem em Tiro e Sidom, há muito tempo elas teriam se arrependido, vestindo roupas de saco e cobrindo-se de cinzas. 14 Mas no juízo haverá menor rigor para Tiro e Sidom do que para vocês. 15 E você, Cafarnaum: será elevada até ao céu? Não; você descerá até o Hades[b]!

16 “Aquele que lhes dá ouvidos, está me dando ouvidos; aquele que os rejeita, está me rejeitando; mas aquele que me rejeita, está rejeitando aquele que me enviou”.

17 Os setenta e dois voltaram alegres e disseram: “Senhor, até os demônios se submetem a nós, em teu nome”.

18 Ele respondeu: “Eu vi Satanás caindo do céu como relâmpago. 19 Eu lhes dei autoridade para pisarem sobre cobras e escorpiões, e sobre todo o poder do inimigo; nada lhes fará dano. 20 Contudo, alegrem-se, não porque os espíritos se submetem a vocês, mas porque seus nomes estão escritos nos céus”.

21 Naquela hora Jesus, exultando no Espírito Santo, disse: “Eu te louvo, Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque escondeste estas coisas dos sábios e cultos e as revelaste aos pequeninos. Sim, Pai, pois assim foi do teu agrado.

22 “Todas as coisas me foram entregues por meu Pai. Ninguém sabe quem é o Filho, a não ser o Pai; e ninguém sabe quem é o Pai, a não ser o Filho e aqueles a quem o Filho o quiser revelar”.

23 Então ele se voltou para os seus discípulos e lhes disse em particular: “Felizes são os olhos que vêem o que vocês vêem. 24 Pois eu lhes digo que muitos profetas e reis desejaram ver o que vocês estão vendo, mas não viram; e ouvir o que vocês estão ouvindo, mas não ouviram”.

A Parábola do Bom Samaritano

25 Certa ocasião, um perito na lei levantou-se para pôr Jesus à prova e lhe perguntou: “Mestre, o que preciso fazer para herdar a vida eterna?”

26 “O que está escrito na Lei?”, respondeu Jesus. “Como você a lê?”

27 Ele respondeu: “‘Ame o Senhor, o seu Deus, de todo o seu coração, de toda a sua alma, de todas as suas forças e de todo o seu entendimento’[c] e ‘Ame o seu próximo como a si mesmo’[d]”.

28 Disse Jesus: “Você respondeu corretamente. Faça isso, e viverá”.

29 Mas ele, querendo justificar-se, perguntou a Jesus: “E quem é o meu próximo?”

30 Em resposta, disse Jesus: “Um homem descia de Jerusalém para Jericó, quando caiu nas mãos de assaltantes. Estes lhe tiraram as roupas, espancaram-no e se foram, deixando-o quase morto. 31 Aconteceu estar descendo pela mesma estrada um sacerdote. Quando viu o homem, passou pelo outro lado. 32 E assim também um levita; quando chegou ao lugar e o viu, passou pelo outro lado. 33 Mas um samaritano, estando de viagem, chegou onde se encontrava o homem e, quando o viu, teve piedade dele. 34 Aproximou-se, enfaixou-lhe as feridas, derramando nelas vinho e óleo. Depois colocou-o sobre o seu próprio animal, levou-o para uma hospedaria e cuidou dele. 35 No dia seguinte, deu dois denários[e] ao hospedeiro e lhe disse: ‘Cuide dele. Quando eu voltar lhe pagarei todas as despesas que você tiver’.

36 “Qual destes três você acha que foi o próximo do homem que caiu nas mãos dos assaltantes?”

37 “Aquele que teve misericórdia dele”, respondeu o perito na lei.

Jesus lhe disse: “Vá e faça o mesmo”.

Na Casa de Marta e de Maria

38 Caminhando Jesus e os seus discípulos, chegaram a um povoado, onde certa mulher chamada Marta o recebeu em sua casa.

39 Maria, sua irmã, ficou sentada aos pés do Senhor, ouvindo a sua palavra. 40 Marta, porém, estava ocupada com muito serviço. E, aproximando-se dele, perguntou: “Senhor, não te importas que minha irmã tenha me deixado sozinha com o serviço? Dize-lhe que me ajude!”

41 Respondeu o Senhor: “Marta! Marta! Você está preocupada e inquieta com muitas coisas; 42 todavia apenas uma é necessária.[f] Maria escolheu a boa parte, e esta não lhe será tirada”.

10 Now after this (A)the Lord appointed [a]seventy-two (B)others, and sent them (C)in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was saying to them, “(D)The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 Go; (E)behold, I am sending you out like lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 (F)Carry no money belt, no [b]bag, no sandals, and greet no one along the way. 5 And whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’ 6 And if a [c]man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay in [d]that house, eating and drinking [e]what they provide; for (G)the laborer is deserving of his wages. The Joyful Results

17 Now the [i]seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even (W)the demons are subject to us [j]in Your name!” 18 And He said to them, “I watched (X)Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to (Y)walk on snakes and scorpions, and authority over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20 Nevertheless, do not [k]rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that (Z)your names are recorded in heaven.”

21 (AA)At that very [l]time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I [m]praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for doing so was well pleasing in Your sight. 22 (AB)All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and (AC)no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal Him.”

The Good Samaritan

Martha and Mary

38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named (AL)Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 And she had a sister called (AM)Mary, who was also (AN)seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word. 40 But (AO)Martha was distracted with [u]all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving [v]by myself? Then tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “(AP)Martha, Martha, you are (AQ)worried and distracted by many things; 42 (AR)but only one thing is necessary; for (AS)Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

10 E, depois disso, designou o Senhor ainda outros setenta e mandou-os adiante da sua face, de dois em dois, a todas as cidades e lugares aonde ele havia de ir. 2 E dizia-lhes: Grande é, em verdade, a seara, mas os obreiros são poucos; rogai, pois, ao Senhor da seara que envie obreiros para a sua seara. 3 Ide; eis que vos mando como cordeiros ao meio de lobos. 4 E não leveis bolsa, nem alforje, nem sandálias; e a ninguém saudeis pelo caminho. 5 E, em qualquer casa onde entrardes, dizei primeiro: Paz seja nesta casa. 6 E, se ali houver algum filho de paz, repousará sobre ele a vossa paz; e, se não, voltará para vós. 7 E ficai na mesma casa, comendo e bebendo do que eles tiverem, pois digno é o obreiro de seu salário. Não andeis de casa em casa. 8 E, em qualquer cidade em que entrardes e vos receberem, comei do que vos puserem diante. 9 E curai os enfermos que nela houver e dizei-lhes: É chegado a vós o Reino de Deus. 10 Mas, em qualquer cidade em que entrardes e vos não receberem, saindo por suas ruas, dizei: 11 Até o pó que da vossa cidade se nos pegou sacudimos sobre vós. Sabei, contudo, isto: já o Reino de Deus é chegado a vós. 12 E digo-vos que mais tolerância haverá naquele dia para Sodoma do que para aquela cidade.

13 Ai de ti, Corazim, ai de ti, Betsaida! Porque, se em Tiro e em Sidom se fizessem as maravilhas que em vós foram feitas, já há muito, assentadas em saco de pano grosseiro e cinza, se teriam arrependido. 14 Portanto, para Tiro e Sidom haverá menos rigor no Dia do Juízo do que para vós. 15 E tu, Cafarnaum, serás levantada até ao céu? Até ao inferno serás abatida. 16 Quem vos ouve a vós a mim me ouve; e quem vos rejeita a vós a mim me rejeita; e quem a mim me rejeita rejeita aquele que me enviou.

17 E voltaram os setenta com alegria, dizendo: Senhor, pelo teu nome, até os demônios se nos sujeitam. 18 E disse-lhes: Eu via Satanás, como raio, cair do céu. 19 Eis que vos dou poder para pisar serpentes, e escorpiões, e toda a força do Inimigo, e nada vos fará dano algum. 20 Mas não vos alegreis porque se vos sujeitem os espíritos; alegrai-vos, antes, por estar o vosso nome escrito nos céus.

21 Naquela mesma hora, se alegrou Jesus no Espírito Santo e disse: Graças te dou, ó Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque escondeste essas coisas aos sábios e inteligentes e as revelaste às criancinhas; assim é, ó Pai, porque assim te aprouve. 22 Tudo por meu Pai me foi entregue; e ninguém conhece quem é o Filho, senão o Pai, nem quem é o Pai, senão o Filho e aquele a quem o Filho o quiser revelar.

23 E, voltando-se para os discípulos, disse-lhes em particular: Bem-aventurados os olhos que veem o que vós vedes, 24 pois vos digo que muitos profetas e reis desejaram ver o que vós vedes e não o viram; e ouvir o que ouvis e não o ouviram.

A parábola do bom samaritano

25 E eis que se levantou um certo doutor da lei, tentando-o e dizendo: Mestre, que farei para herdar a vida eterna? 26 E ele lhe disse: Que está escrito na lei? Como lês? 27 E, respondendo ele, disse: Amarás ao Senhor, teu Deus, de todo o teu coração, e de toda a tua alma, e de todas as tuas forças, e de todo o teu entendimento e ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo. 28 E disse-lhe: Respondeste bem; faze isso e viverás. 29 Ele, porém, querendo justificar-se a si mesmo, disse a Jesus: E quem é o meu próximo? 30 E, respondendo Jesus, disse: Descia um homem de Jerusalém para Jericó, e caiu nas mãos dos salteadores, os quais o despojaram e, espancando-o, se retiraram, deixando-o meio morto. 31 E, ocasionalmente, descia pelo mesmo caminho certo sacerdote; e, vendo-o, passou de largo. 32 E, de igual modo, também um levita, chegando àquele lugar e vendo-o, passou de largo. 33 Mas um samaritano que ia de viagem chegou ao pé dele e, vendo-o, moveu-se de íntima compaixão. 34 E, aproximando-se, atou-lhe as feridas, aplicando-lhes azeite e vinho; e, pondo-o sobre a sua cavalgadura, levou-o para uma estalagem e cuidou dele; 35 E, partindo ao outro dia, tirou dois dinheiros, e deu-os ao hospedeiro, e disse-lhe: Cuida dele, e tudo o que de mais gastares eu to pagarei, quando voltar. 36 Qual, pois, destes três te parece que foi o próximo daquele que caiu nas mãos dos salteadores? 37 E ele disse: O que usou de misericórdia para com ele. Disse, pois, Jesus: Vai e faze da mesma maneira.

Marta e Maria

38 E aconteceu que, indo eles de caminho, entrou numa aldeia; e certa mulher, por nome Marta, o recebeu em sua casa. 39 E tinha esta uma irmã, chamada Maria, a qual, assentando-se também aos pés de Jesus, ouvia a sua palavra. 40 Marta, porém, andava distraída em muitos serviços e, aproximando-se, disse: Senhor, não te importas que minha irmã me deixe servir só? Dize-lhe, pois, que me ajude. 41 E, respondendo Jesus, disse-lhe: Marta, Marta, estás ansiosa e afadigada com muitas coisas, 42 mas uma só é necessária; e Maria escolheu a boa parte, a qual não lhe será tirada.
