²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”

²¹ Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. ²² But the Scripture has confined ^(A)all under sin, ^(B)that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that ^(B)every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become ^[a]guilty before God.

⁵ For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, ^(A)“The man who does those things shall live by them.”

^20 (A)To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because ^(B)there^[a] is no light in them.

¹⁴ For ^(A)if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, ¹⁵ because ^(B)the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.

¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith that it might be ^(C)according to grace, ^(D)so that the promise might be ^[a]sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, ^(E)who is the father of us all

¹² Yet ^(A)the law is not of faith, but ^(B)“the man who does them shall live by them.”

^13 (C)Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ^(D)“Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
