⁹ according to the custom of the priesthood, ^[a]his lot fell ^(A)to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.

¹¹ My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has ^(A)chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, and that you should minister to Him and burn incense.”

¹³ The sons of ^(A)Amram: Aaron and Moses; and ^(B)Aaron was set apart, he and his sons forever, that he should ^[a]sanctify the most holy things, ^(C)to burn incense before the Lord, ^(D)to minister to Him, and ^(E)to give the blessing in His name forever.

⁷ “Aaron shall burn on it ^(A)sweet incense every morning; when ^(B)he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it. ⁸ And when Aaron lights the lamps ^[a]at twilight, he shall burn incense on it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations.

²⁸ Did I not ^(A)choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My priest, to offer upon My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod before Me? And ^(B)did I not give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?

⁴⁰ to be a ^[a]memorial to the children of Israel ^(A)that no outsider, who is not a descendant of Aaron, should come near to offer incense before the Lord, that he might not become like Korah and his companions, just as the Lord had said to him through Moses.

Limitations of the Earthly Service

⁶ Now when these things had been thus prepared, ^(A)the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle, performing the services.

¹⁶ But ^(B)when he was strong his heart was ^(C)lifted up, to his destruction, for he transgressed against the Lord his God ^(D)by entering the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

The Family of Aaron

^49 (A)But Aaron and his sons offered sacrifices ^(B)on the altar of burnt offering and ^(C)on the altar of incense, for all the work of the Most Holy Place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.
