⁹ according to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot ^(A)to enter ^(B)the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

¹¹ My sons, do not now be negligent, ^(A)for the Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him and to be his ministers and make offerings to him.”

^13 (A)The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. ^(B)Aaron was set apart to dedicate the most holy things, that he and his sons forever should ^(C)make offerings before the Lord and ^(D)minister to him and ^(E)pronounce blessings in his name forever.

⁷ And Aaron shall ^(A)burn fragrant incense on it. Every morning when he ^(B)dresses the lamps he shall burn it, ⁸ and when Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he shall burn it, a regular incense offering before the Lord throughout your generations.

^28 (A)Did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, ^(B)to wear an ephod before me? ^(C)I gave to the house of your father all my offerings by fire from the people of Israel.

⁴⁰ to be a reminder to the people of Israel, so ^(A)that no outsider, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, should draw near to burn incense before the Lord, lest he become like Korah and his company—as the Lord said to him through Moses.

⁶ These preparations having thus been made, ^(A)the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties,

Uzziah's Pride and Punishment

¹⁶ But when ^(A)he was strong, ^(B)he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.

⁴⁹ But Aaron and his sons made offerings ^(A)on the altar of burnt offering and on ^(B)the altar of incense for all the work of the Most Holy Place, and ^(C)to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

Making the Altar of Incense

^25 (A)He made the altar of incense of acacia wood. Its length was a cubit, and its breadth was a cubit. It was square, and two cubits was its height. Its horns were of one piece with it. ²⁶ He overlaid it with pure gold, its top and around its sides and its horns. And he made a molding of gold around it, ²⁷ and made two rings of gold on it under its molding, on two opposite sides of it, as holders for the poles with which to carry it. ²⁸ And he made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.

^29 (B)He made the holy anointing oil also, and the ^(C)pure fragrant incense, blended as by the perfumer.
