⁷ But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

¹¹ By faith ^(A)Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and ^(B)she^[a] bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him ^(C)faithful who had promised.

¹¹ Now ^(A)Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and ^[a]Sarah ^(B)had passed the age of childbearing.

² And he had ^(A)two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

²¹ Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; ^(A)and the Lord granted his plea, ^(B)and Rebekah his wife conceived.

¹⁴ So he said, “What then is to be done for her?”

And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.”

² Now there was a certain man from ^(A)Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children. ³ And the ^(B)Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

¹⁷ Then Abraham fell on his face ^(A)and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”

Hagar and Ishmael

16 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, ^(A)had borne him no children. And she had ^(B)an Egyptian maidservant whose name was ^(C)Hagar. ^2 (D)So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord ^(E)has restrained me from bearing children. Please, ^(F)go in to my maid; perhaps I shall ^[a]obtain children by her.” And Abram ^(G)heeded the voice of Sarai.

¹⁹ And not being weak in faith, ^(A)he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), ^(B)and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
