²⁹ Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!^{(A) 30} The God of our ancestors^(B) raised Jesus from the dead^(C)—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.^{(D) 31} God exalted him to his own right hand^(E) as Prince and Savior^(F) that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.^(G)

³⁷ This is what the Lord says:

²⁵ This is what the Lord says: ‘If I have not made my covenant with day and night^(A) and established the laws^(B) of heaven and earth,^{(C) 26} then I will reject^(D) the descendants of Jacob^(E) and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes^[a](F) and have compassion^(G) on them.’”

⁵ For you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples.^{[a](A) 6} You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks,^(B) that you might send them far from their homeland.

⁷ “See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them,^(C) and I will return^(D) on your own heads what you have done. ⁸ I will sell your sons^(E) and daughters to the people of Judah,^(F) and they will sell them to the Sabeans,^(G) a nation far away.” The Lord has spoken.^(H)

⁴ Then I heard the number^(A) of those who were sealed: 144,000^(B) from all the tribes of Israel.

Warning to Escape Babylon’s Judgment

⁴ Then I heard another voice from heaven say:

¹² It had a great, high wall with twelve gates,^(A) and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.^(B)
