⁵⁸ Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.^(A)

²⁵ “This is what the Lord has done for me in this time, when he looked favorably on me and took away the disgrace I have endured among my people.”^(A)

¹⁴ You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth,^(A)

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.

²⁶ If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it.

¹⁴ Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without next-of-kin,^[a] and may his name be renowned in Israel!^{(A) 15} He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has borne him.”^{(B) 16} Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her bosom and became his nurse. ¹⁷ The women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi.” They named him Obed; he became the father of Jesse, the father of David.

⁶ Now Sarah said, “God has brought laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.”^(A)

¹⁹ your servant has found favor with you, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life, but I cannot flee to the hills, for fear the disaster will overtake me and I die.
