34 Mary said to the angel, “How [a]can this be, since I [b]am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered and said to her, “(A)The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of (B)the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason (C)the [c]holy Child shall be called (D)the Son of God. 36 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and [d]she who was called barren is now in her sixth month. 37 For [e](E)nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, the [f]bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 Now [g]at this time Mary arose and went in a hurry to (F)the hill country, to a city of Judah, 40 and entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was (G)filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 And she cried out with a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And [h]how has it happened to me, that the mother of (H)my Lord would come to me? 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy.

So the holy one(C) to be born will be called[a] the Son of God.(D) 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child(E) in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”(F)

38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,(G) 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.(H) 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women,(I) and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord(J) should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
