³⁰ But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid,^(A) Mary; you have found favor with God.^{(B) 31} You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.^{(C) 32} He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.^(D) The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,^{(E) 33} and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom^(F) will never end.”^(G)

²⁰ But after he had considered this, an angel^(A) of the Lord appeared to him in a dream^(B) and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. ²¹ She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,^[a](C) because he will save his people from their sins.”^(D)

⁸ And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. ⁹ An angel^(A) of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. ¹⁰ But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.^(B) I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. ¹¹ Today in the town of David a Savior^(C) has been born to you; he is the Messiah,^(D) the Lord.^{(E) 12} This will be a sign^(F) to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
