¹³ But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid,^(A) Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.^(B)

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.

²¹ And the Lord was gracious to Hannah;^(A) she gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew^(B) up in the presence of the Lord.

³ The angel of the Lord^(A) appeared to her^(B) and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son.^{(C) 4} Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink^(D) and that you do not eat anything unclean.^{(E) 5} You will become pregnant and have a son^(F) whose head is never to be touched by a razor^(G) because the boy is to be a Nazirite,^(H) dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead^(I) in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”

²¹ Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was childless.^(A) The Lord answered his prayer,^(B) and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

²¹ On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child,^(A) he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.^(B)
