Herod Is Worried
(Matthew 14.1-12; Mark 6.14-29)
7 (A) Herod[a] the ruler heard about all that was happening, and he was worried. Some people were saying John the Baptist had come back to life. 8 Others were saying Elijah had come[b] or one of the prophets from long ago had come back to life. 9 But Herod said, “I had John's head cut off! Who is this I hear so much about?” Herod was eager to meet Jesus.

7 Now Herod(A) the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed because some were saying that John(B) had been raised from the dead,(C) 8 others that Elijah had appeared,(D) and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life.(E) 9 But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.(F)
