A Sinful Woman Forgiven
36 (A)One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee's house and reclined at table. 37 (B)And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, 38 and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and (C)wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If (D)this man were (E)a prophet, he (F)would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” 40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.”
41 “A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred (G)denarii, and the other fifty. 42 (H)When they could not pay, he (I)cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” 44 Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; (J)you gave me no water for my feet, but (K)she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 (L)You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to (M)kiss my feet. 46 (N)You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, (O)which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And he said to her, (P)“Your sins are forgiven.” 49 Then those who were at table with him began to say among[a] themselves, (Q)“Who is this, who even forgives sins?” 50 And he said to the woman, (R)“Your faith has saved you; (S)go in peace.”
Women Accompanying Jesus
8 Soon afterward he went on (T)through cities and villages, proclaiming and (U)bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, 2 and also (V)some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: (W)Mary, called Magdalene, (X)from whom seven demons had gone out, 3 and (Y)Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them[b] out of their means.
The Parable of the Sower
4 (Z)And when a great crowd was gathering and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable, 5 (AA)“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, (AB)it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And some fell among (AC)thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. 8 And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded (AD)a hundredfold.” As he said these things, he called out, (AE)“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
The Purpose of the Parables
9 And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, 10 he said, (AF)“To you it has been given to know (AG)the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so (AH)that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’ 11 (AI)Now the parable is this: The seed is (AJ)the word of God. 12 The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not (AK)believe and be saved. 13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it (AL)with joy. But these have no root; they (AM)believe for a while, and in time of testing (AN)fall away. 14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but (AO)as they go on their way they are choked by the (AP)cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. 15 As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and (AQ)bear fruit (AR)with patience.
A Lamp Under a Jar
16 (AS)(AT)“No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. 17 (AU)For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. 18 (AV)Take care then how you hear, (AW)for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”

Jesus Anointed by a Sinful Woman(A)(B)
36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet,(C) he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[a] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet,(D) but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss,(E) but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head,(F) but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”(G)
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you;(H) go in peace.”(I)
The Parable of the Sower(J)
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(K) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(L) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(M) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(N)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(O) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(Q) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(R) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(S) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(T) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(U) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(V)
