Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Servant
7 After Jesus[a] had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2 A centurion there had a slave whom he valued highly, and who was ill and close to death. 3 When he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, asking him to come and heal his slave. 4 When they came to Jesus, they appealed to him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy of having you do this for him, 5 for he loves our people, and it is he who built our synagogue for us.” 6 And Jesus went with them, but when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; 7 therefore I did not presume to come to you. But only speak the word, and let my servant be healed. 8 For I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and the slave does it.” 9 When Jesus heard this he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, he said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” 10 When those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.

2 Un centurione aveva un servo, a lui molto caro, che era infermo e stava per morire; 3 avendo udito parlare di Gesù, gli mandò degli anziani dei Giudei per pregarlo che venisse a guarire il suo servo. 4 Essi, presentatisi a Gesù, lo pregavano con insistenza, dicendo: «Egli merita che tu gli conceda questo; 5 perché ama la nostra nazione ed è lui che ci ha costruito la sinagoga». 6 Gesù s’incamminò con loro; ormai non si trovava più molto lontano dalla casa, quando il centurione [gli] mandò degli amici a dirgli: «Signore, non darti quest’incomodo, perché io non sono degno che tu entri sotto il mio tetto; 7 perciò non mi sono neppure ritenuto degno di venire da te; ma di’ una parola e il mio servo sarà guarito[a]. 8 Perché anch’io sono un uomo sottoposto all’autorità altrui e ho sotto di me dei soldati; e dico a uno: “Va’”, ed egli va; a un altro: “Vieni”, ed egli viene; e al mio servo: “Fa’ questo”, ed egli lo fa». 9 Udito questo, Gesù restò meravigliato di lui; e, rivolgendosi alla folla che lo seguiva, disse: «Io vi dico che neppure in Israele ho trovato una fede così grande!» 10 E quando gli inviati furono tornati a casa, trovarono il servo [, che era stato infermo,] guarito.

7 Nachdem er aber vor den Ohren des Volkes alle seine Reden beendet hatte, ging er hinein nach Kapernaum.
2 Und ein Knecht eines Hauptmanns, den jener schätzte, lag krank und war am Sterben.
3 Als er aber von Jesus hörte, sandte er Älteste der Juden zu ihm mit der Bitte, er möge kommen und seinen Knecht retten.
4 Als diese zu Jesus kamen, baten sie ihn eindringlich und sprachen: Er ist es wert, dass du ihm dies gewährst;
5 denn er hat unser Volk lieb, und er hat uns die Synagoge erbaut.
6 Da ging Jesus mit ihnen hin. Und als er schon nicht mehr fern von dem Haus war, schickte der Hauptmann Freunde zu ihm und ließ ihm sagen: Herr, bemühe dich nicht; denn ich bin nicht wert, dass du unter mein Dach kommst!
7 Darum hielt ich auch mich selbst nicht für würdig, zu dir zu kommen; sondern sprich nur ein Wort, so wird mein Knecht gesund!
8 Denn auch ich bin ein Mensch, der unter Vorgesetzten steht, und habe Kriegsknechte unter mir; und wenn ich zu diesem sage: Geh hin!, so geht er; und zu einem anderen: Komm her!, so kommt er; und zu meinem Knecht: Tu das!, so tut er"s.
9 Als Jesus das hörte, verwunderte er sich über ihn und wandte sich um und sprach zu der Menge, die ihm nachfolgte: Ich sage euch: Einen so großen Glauben habe ich in Israel nicht gefunden!
10 Und als die Abgesandten in das Haus zurückkamen, fanden sie den kranken Knecht gesund.

7 Miután Jézus befejezte, amit mondani akart, Kapernaumba ment. 2 Élt ott egy római százados, akinek a rabszolgája halálos beteg volt. A százados nagyon kedvelte ezt a rabszolgáját, 3 és mikor hallott Jézusról, elküldött hozzá néhány zsidó vezetőt. Általuk kérte Jézust, hogy jöjjön el, és mentse meg a rabszolgáját. 4 A zsidó vezetők el is mentek Jézushoz, és így kérlelték: „Ez az ember megérdemli, hogy megtedd, amire kér. 5 Szereti a népünket, és a zsinagógát is ő építtette nekünk.”
6 Jézus ekkor elindult velük a százados házához. Amikor már közel volt, a százados Jézus elé küldte néhány barátját ezzel az üzenettel: „Uram, ne fáradj, mert nem vagyok rá méltó, hogy a házamba jöjj! 7 Ezért nem is jöttem személyesen hozzád. Elég, ha egy szót szólsz, és meggyógyul a rabszolgám. 8 Hiszen én is a feletteseim hatalma alatt vagyok, és vannak katonáim, akiknek meg én parancsolok. Ha azt mondom az egyiknek: »Menj el!«, az el is megy, vagy, ha szólok egy másiknak: »Gyere ide!«, az odajön hozzám. Ha azt mondom a szolgámnak: »Tedd meg ezt!«, az meg is teszi.”
9 Jézus elcsodálkozott ezen. Majd hátrafordult az őt követő tömeghez, és azt mondta: „Igazán mondom nektek: még Izráel népe között sem találkoztam ilyen nagy hittel.”
10 Amikor a küldöttek visszatértek a százados házába, a rabszolgát már egészségesen találták.
