Luke 4:2-4

New International Version

²where for forty days^(A) he was tempted^[a] by the devil.^(B) He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

³The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God,^(C) tell this stone to become bread.”

⁴Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’^[b]”^(D)

³And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
