15 Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were reasoning in their hearts about John, (A)as to whether he was the [a]Christ, 16 (B)John answered, saying to them all, “As for me, I baptize you with water, but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the strap of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His (C)winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn, but He will burn up the chaff with (D)unquenchable fire.”
18 So with many other exhortations he proclaimed the gospel to the people.

15 Now the people were waiting expectantly, and all of them were debating in their minds[a] whether John might be the Messiah.(A) 16 John answered them all,(B) “I baptize you with[b] water, but One is coming who is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to untie the strap of His sandals. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing shovel[d](C) is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and gather the wheat into His barn, but the chaff He will burn up with a fire that never goes out.”(D) 18 Then, along with many other exhortations, he proclaimed good news to the people.

He will baptize you with[b] the Holy Spirit and fire.(D) 17 His winnowing fork(E) is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”(F) 18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and proclaimed the good news to them.
