and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 Now these women were (A)Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to (B)the apostles. 11 But these words appeared [a]to them as nonsense, and they (C)would not believe [b]the women. 12 Nevertheless, Peter got up and (D)ran to the tomb; and when he stooped and looked in, he *saw the linen wrappings [c]only; and he went away (E)to his [d]home, marveling at what had happened.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them(A) who told this to the apostles.(B) 11 But they did not believe(C) the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. So she *ran and *came to Simon Peter and to the other (A)disciple whom Jesus loved, and *said to them, “(B)They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him.” (C)So Peter and the other disciple left, and they were going to the tomb. The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first; and he (D)stooped to look in, and *saw the (E)linen wrappings lying there; however he did not go in. So Simon Peter also *came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he *looked at the linen wrappings lying there, and (F)the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the (G)linen wrappings but folded up in a place by itself. So the other disciple who (H)had first come to the tomb also entered then, and he saw and believed. For (I)they did not yet understand the Scripture, (J)that He must rise from the dead. 10 So the disciples went away again (K)to their own homes.

So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.(C) Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in(D) at the strips of linen(E) lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head.(F) The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first,(G) also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture(H) that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)(I) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
