21 But we [a]were hoping that it was He who was going to (A)redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. 22 But also some women among us left us bewildered. (B)When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive. 24 And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.” 25 And then He said to them, [b]You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that (C)the prophets have spoken! 26 (D)Was it not necessary for the [c]Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?” 27 Then beginning [d]with (E)Moses and [e]with all the (F)Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.

28 And they approached the village where they were going, and (G)He gave the impression that He was going farther. 29 And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [f]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. 30 And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and (H)blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. 31 And then their (I)eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [g]their sight. 32 They said to one another, “[h]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He (J)was [i]explaining the Scriptures to us?” 33 And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and (K)found the eleven gathered together and (L)those who were with them, 34 saying, “(M)The Lord has really risen and (N)has appeared to Simon!”

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it(I) and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,(J) and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us(K) while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures(L) to us?”
