⁵³ Every day I was with you in the temple courts,^(A) and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour^(B)—when darkness reigns.”^(C)

³ And even if our gospel^(A) is veiled,^(B) it is veiled to those who are perishing.^{(C) 4} The god^(D) of this age^(E) has blinded^(F) the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ,^(G) who is the image of God.^(H)

¹² For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,^(A) but against the rulers, against the authorities,^(B) against the powers^(C) of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.^{(D) 13} Therefore put on the full armor of God,^(E) so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,^(F) with the breastplate of righteousness in place,^{(G) 15} and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.^{(H) 16} In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,^(I) with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.^(J)

¹³ For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness^(A) and brought us into the kingdom^(B) of the Son he loves,^(C)

¹⁴ Since the children have flesh and blood,^(A) he too shared in their humanity^(B) so that by his death he might break the power^(C) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil^(D)— ¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear^(E) of death.
