45 When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. 46 Then He said to them, “Why (A)do you sleep? Rise and (B)pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

Betrayal and Arrest in Gethsemane(C)

47 And while He was still speaking, (D)behold, a multitude; and he who was called (E)Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a (F)kiss?”

49 When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50 And (G)one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

51 But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.

52 (H)Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a (I)robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you daily in the (J)temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your (K)hour, and the power of darkness.”

Peter Denies Jesus, and Weeps Bitterly(L)

54 (M)Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. (N)But Peter followed at a distance.

47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”(C) 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.

52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,(D) and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts,(E) and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour(F)—when darkness reigns.”(G)

Peter Disowns Jesus(H)

54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest.(I) Peter followed at a distance.(J)
