Luke 20:39-44

³⁹Then some of the scribes ^(A)answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.” ⁴⁰For ^(B)they no longer dared to ask him any question.

⁴¹^(C)But he said to them, “How can they say that ^(D)the Christ is ^(E)David's son? ⁴²For David himself says in the Book of Psalms,

^(F)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
⁴³ until I make your enemies ^(G)your footstool.”’

⁴⁴David thus calls him Lord, so ^(H)how is he his son?”

³⁹Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!” ⁴⁰And no one dared to ask him any more questions.^(A)

⁴¹Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?^(C) ⁴²David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:

“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
⁴³until I make your enemies

⁴⁴David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
