Jesus Cleanses the Temple

45 Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things[a] there, 46 and he said, “It is written,

‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’
    but you have made it a den of robbers.”(A)

47 Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him,(B) 48 but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.

Jesus Clears the Temple

45 Then Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people selling animals for sacrifices. 46 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”[a]

47 After that, he taught daily in the Temple, but the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill him. 48 But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word he said.
