39 (A)And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, (B)the very stones would cry out.”

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

41 (C)And when he drew near and saw the city, (D)he wept over it, 42 saying, (E)“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now (F)they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For (G)the days will come upon you, when your enemies (H)will set up a barricade around you and (I)surround you and hem you in on every side 44 (J)and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And (K)they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know (L)the time of your (M)visitation.”

41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it(C) 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.(D) 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls.(E) They will not leave one stone on another,(F) because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming(G) to you.”
