⁵ Is not your wickedness great?
    Are not your sins^(A) endless?^(B)
6 You demanded security^(C) from your relatives for no reason;^(D)
    you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.^(E)
7 You gave no water^(F) to the weary
    and you withheld food from the hungry,^(G)
8 though you were a powerful man, owning land^(H)—
    an honored man,^(I) living on it.^(J)
9 And you sent widows^(K) away empty-handed^(L)
    and broke the strength of the fatherless.^(M)
10 That is why snares^(N) are all around you,^(O)
    why sudden peril terrifies you,^(P)
11 why it is so dark^(Q) you cannot see,
    and why a flood of water covers you.^(R)

¹² “Is not God in the heights of heaven?^(S)
    And see how lofty are the highest stars!
¹³ Yet you say, ‘What does God know?^(T)
    Does he judge through such darkness?^(U)
14 Thick clouds^(V) veil him, so he does not see us^(W)
    as he goes about in the vaulted heavens.’^(X)
15 Will you keep to the old path
    that the wicked^(Y) have trod?^(Z)
16 They were carried off before their time,^(AA)
    their foundations^(AB) washed away by a flood.^(AC)
