48 But the one who did not know and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded.
Jesus the Cause of Division
49 “I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! 52 From now on five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; 53 they will be divided:
father against son
and son against father,
mother against daughter
and daughter against mother,
mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Interpreting the Time
54 He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say, ‘It is going to rain’; and so it happens. 55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat’; and it happens. 56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Settling with Your Opponent
57 “And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? 58 Thus, when you go with your accuser before a magistrate, on the way make an effort to settle the case,[a] or you may be dragged before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you in prison. 59 I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”

Cristo, causa di divisione
49 (A)«Io sono venuto ad accendere un fuoco sulla terra; e che mi resta da desiderare, se già è acceso[a]? 50 Vi è un battesimo del quale devo essere battezzato, e sono angosciato finché non sia compiuto! 51 Voi pensate che io sia venuto a portar pace sulla terra? No, vi dico, ma piuttosto divisione; 52 perché da ora in avanti, se vi sono cinque persone in una casa, saranno divise tre contro due e due contro tre; 53 saranno divisi il padre contro il figlio e il figlio contro il padre; la madre contro la figlia e la figlia contro la madre; la suocera contro la nuora e la nuora contro la suocera».
54 (B)Diceva ancora alle folle: «Quando vedete una nuvola venire su da ponente, voi dite subito: “Viene la pioggia”, e così avviene. 55 Quando sentite soffiare lo scirocco, dite: “Farà caldo”, e così è. 56 Ipocriti! L’aspetto della terra e del cielo sapete riconoscerlo; come mai non sapete riconoscere questo tempo?[b]
57 Perché non giudicate da voi stessi ciò che è giusto? 58 Quando vai con il tuo avversario davanti al magistrato, fa’ di tutto mentre sei per via per accordarti con lui, perché non ti porti davanti al giudice e il giudice ti consegni all’esecutore giudiziario, e l’esecutore ti metta in prigione. 59 Io ti dico che non uscirai di là, finché non avrai pagato fino all’ultimo centesimo[c]».

48 wer ihn aber nicht kannte und doch tat, was Schläge verdient, der wird wenig Schläge erleiden müssen. Denn wem viel gegeben ist, bei dem wird man viel suchen; und wem viel anvertraut ist, von dem wird man desto mehr fordern.
Das Bekenntnis zu Christus bringt Trennung
49 Ich bin gekommen, ein Feuer auf die Erde zu bringen,[a] und wie wünschte ich, es wäre schon entzündet!
50 Aber ich muss mich taufen lassen mit einer Taufe, und wie drängt es mich, bis sie vollbracht ist!
51 Meint ihr, dass ich gekommen sei, Frieden auf Erden zu geben? Nein, sage ich euch, sondern vielmehr Entzweiung!
52 Denn von nun an werden fünf in einem Haus entzweit sein, drei mit zweien und zwei mit dreien;
53 der Vater wird mit dem Sohn entzweit sein und der Sohn mit dem Vater, die Mutter mit der Tochter und die Tochter mit der Mutter, die Schwiegermutter mit ihrer Schwiegertochter und die Schwiegertochter mit ihrer Schwiegermutter.
Zeichen der Zeit. Ermahnung zu Versöhnlichkeit
54 Er sprach aber auch zu der Volksmenge: Wenn ihr das Gewölk aufsteigen seht vom Westen her, so sagt ihr sofort: Es gibt Regen!, und es geschieht auch so.
55 Und wenn der Südwind weht, so sagt ihr: Es wird heiß!, und es geschieht auch so.
56 Ihr Heuchler, das Aussehen der Erde und des Himmels könnt ihr beurteilen; wie kommt es aber, dass ihr diese Zeit nicht beurteilt?
57 Und warum entscheidet ihr nicht von euch selbst aus, was recht ist?
58 Denn wenn du mit deinem Widersacher zur Obrigkeit gehst, so gib dir auf dem Weg Mühe, von ihm loszukommen, damit er dich nicht vor den Richter schleppt und der Richter dich dem Gerichtsdiener übergibt und der Gerichtsdiener dich ins Gefängnis wirft.
59 Ich sage dir: Du wirst von dort nicht herauskommen, bis du auch den letzten Groschen bezahlt hast!

48 Mais celui qui n’aura pas su ce que son maître voulait, et qui aura commis des actes méritant une punition, celui-là subira un châtiment peu rigoureux. Si quelqu’un a beaucoup reçu, on exigera beaucoup de lui ; et plus on vous aura confié, plus on demandera de vous.
La division et le jugement
49 Je suis venu jeter un feu sur la terre ; comme je voudrais qu’il soit déjà allumé ! 50 Mais il y a un baptême que je dois recevoir, et quelle angoisse est la mienne, tant que je ne l’ai pas reçu !

51 Pensez-vous que je sois venu pour apporter la paix sur la terre ? Non, mais la division. 52 En effet, à partir de maintenant, s’il y a cinq personnes dans une famille, elles seront divisées trois contre deux, et deux contre trois. 53 Le père sera contre le fils et le fils contre son père ; la mère contre sa fille, et la fille contre sa mère : la belle-mère contre sa belle-fille, et la belle-fille contre sa belle-mère.
Le discernement nécessaire(A)
54 Puis, s’adressant de nouveau à la foule, Jésus reprit : Quand vous voyez apparaître un nuage du côté de l’ouest, vous dites aussitôt : « Il va pleuvoir », et c’est ce qui arrive. 55 Quand le vent du sud se met à souffler, vous dites : « Il va faire très chaud », et c’est ce qui arrive.
56 Hypocrites ! Vous êtes capables d’interpréter correctement les phénomènes de la terre et les aspects du ciel, et vous ne pouvez pas comprendre en quel temps vous vivez ?

57 Pourquoi aussi ne discernez-vous pas par vous-mêmes ce qui est juste ? 58 Ainsi, quand tu vas en justice avec ton adversaire, fais tous tes efforts pour t’arranger à l’amiable avec lui pendant que vous êtes encore en chemin. Sinon, il te traînera devant le juge, celui-ci te remettra entre les mains des forces de l’ordre qui te jetteront en prison. 59 Or, je te l’assure : tu n’en sortiras pas avant d’avoir remboursé jusqu’à la dernière petite pièce.
