39 So the Lord said to him:
You Pharisees clean the outside of cups and dishes, but on the inside you are greedy and evil. 40 You fools! Didn't God make both the outside and the inside?[a] 41 If you would only give what you have to the poor, everything you do would please God.

39 Then the Lord(A) said to him, “Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.(B) 40 You foolish people!(C) Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But now as for what is inside you—be generous to the poor,(D) and everything will be clean for you.(E)
