Mary and Martha Worship and Serve

38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named (A)Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, (B)who also (C)sat at [a]Jesus’ feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

41 And [b]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But (D)one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

The Model Prayer(E)

11 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

(F)Our[c] Father [d]in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
[e]Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And (G)forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
[f]But deliver us from the evil one.”

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha(A) opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary,(B) who sat at the Lord’s feet(C) listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care(D) that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried(E) and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a](F) Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer(G)(H)

11 One day Jesus was praying(I) in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord,(J) teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

He said to them, “When you pray, say:

“‘Father,[b]
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom(K) come.[c]
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.[d](L)
And lead us not into temptation.[e]’”(M)
