Luke 1:76-80
New International Version
76 And you, my child, will be called a prophet(A) of the Most High;(B)
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,(C)
77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,(D)
78 because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun(E) will come to us from heaven
79 to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,(F)
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”(G)
80 And the child grew and became strong in spirit[a];(H) and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel.

77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

3 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar—when Pontius Pilate(C) was governor of Judea, Herod(D) tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene— 2 during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,(E) the word of God came to John(F) son of Zechariah(G) in the wilderness. 3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.(H) 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:

5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
