³⁹ In those days Mary arose and went with haste into ^(A)the hill country, to a town in Judah,

⁶⁵ And ^(A)fear came on all their neighbors. And all these things were talked about through all ^(B)the hill country of Judea,

⁹ Out of the tribe of the people of Judah and the tribe of the people of Simeon they gave the following cities mentioned by name, ¹⁰ which went to ^(A)the descendants of Aaron, one of the clans of the Kohathites who belonged to the people of Levi; since the lot fell to them first. ^11 (B)They gave them ^(C)Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, ^(D)in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it.

⁴⁸ And in the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh, ⁴⁹ Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (^(A)that is, Debir), ⁵⁰ Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim, ^51 (B)Goshen, Holon, and ^(C)Giloh: eleven cities with their villages.

⁵² Arab, Dumah, Eshan, ⁵³ Janim, Beth-tappuah, Aphekah, ⁵⁴ Humtah, ^(D)Kiriath-arba (that is, ^(E)Hebron), and Zior: nine cities with their villages.

^55 (F)Maon, ^(G)Carmel, ^(H)Ziph, Juttah, ⁵⁶ Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah, ⁵⁷ Kain, Gibeah, and ^(I)Timnah: ten cities with their villages.

⁵⁸ Halhul, Beth-zur, Gedor, ⁵⁹ Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon: six cities with their villages.

⁴⁰ So Joshua struck the whole land, the hill country and the Negeb and the lowland ^(A)and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, ^(B)but devoted to destruction all that breathed, just as the Lord God of Israel commanded.
