Jesus sänder ut de tolv

9 Jesus kallade till sig de tolv och gav dem makt över alla onda andar och kraft att bota sjukdomar. 2 Och han sände ut dem att predika Guds rike och bota sjuka. 3 Han sade till dem: "Ta ingenting med er på vägen, varken stav eller lädersäck, varken bröd eller pengar, inte heller två livklädnader. 4 När ni kommer in i ett hus, så stanna där tills ni drar vidare. 5 Men om man inte tar emot er, lämna då den staden och skaka dammet av era fötter. Det skall vittna mot dem." 6 De gick ut och vandrade från by till by och predikade överallt evangeliet och botade sjuka.

7 När landsfursten[a] Herodes fick höra om allt som hände, visste han inte vad han skulle tro. Några påstod nämligen att Johannes hade uppstått från de döda, 8 andra att Elia hade trätt fram och andra att någon av de gamla profeterna hade uppstått. 9 Herodes sade: "Johannes har jag halshuggit. Vem är han som jag hör sådant om?" Och Herodes ville gärna träffa Jesus.

Jesus mättar fem tusen män

10 Apostlarna kom tillbaka och berättade för Jesus allt de hade gjort. Då tog han dem med sig och drog sig undan mot en stad som heter Betsaida. 11 Men folket fick veta det och följde efter honom. Han tog då emot dem och talade till dem om Guds rike, och han botade dem som behövde hjälp.

12 Vid dagens slut kom de tolv fram och sade till honom: "Låt folket skiljas åt, så att de kan gå till byarna och gårdarna häromkring och skaffa mat och husrum. Vi är ju här på en öde plats." 13 Han sade till dem: "Ge ni dem att äta." De svarade: "Vi har bara fem bröd och två fiskar, om vi nu inte skall gå och köpa mat åt allt det här folket." 14 Det var ungefär fem tusen män. Då sade han till sina lärjungar: "Låt folket slå sig ner i matlag, omkring femtio i varje." 15 De gjorde så och lät alla slå sig ner. 16 Sedan tog han de fem bröden och de två fiskarna, såg upp mot himlen, välsignade dem och bröt bröden och gav åt lärjungarna för att de skulle sätta fram åt folket. 17 Alla åt och blev mätta. Och de stycken som blev över efter dem plockades upp, tolv korgar.

Petrus bekännelse

18 En gång när Jesus hade dragit sig undan för att be och lärjungarna var hos honom, frågade han dem: "Vem säger folket att jag är?" 19 De svarade: "Johannes Döparen, andra säger Elia och andra att någon av de gamla profeterna har uppstått." 20 Han sade till dem: "Och ni, vem säger ni att jag är?" Petrus svarade: "Du är Guds Messias." 21 Då förbjöd han dem strängt att tala om detta för någon 22 och sade: "Människosonen måste lida mycket och förkastas av de äldste och översteprästerna och de skriftlärda. Han måste dödas och på tredje dagen uppväckas."

I Jesu efterföljd

23 Sedan sade han till alla: "Om någon vill följa mig, skall han förneka sig själv och varje dag ta sitt kors och följa mig. 24 Ty den som vill bevara sitt liv skall mista det, men den som mister sitt liv för min skull, han skall vinna det. 25 Vad hjälper det en människa, om hon vinner hela världen men förlorar sitt liv eller själv går förlorad? 26 Den som skäms för mig och mina ord, honom skall Människosonen skämmas för, när han kommer i sin och sin Faders och de heliga änglarnas härlighet.

Jesu härlighet uppenbaras

27 Jag säger er sanningen: Bland dem som står här finns några som inte skall smaka döden, förrän de får se Guds rike." 28 Omkring åtta dagar efter det att Jesus hade sagt detta, tog han med sig Petrus, Johannes och Jakob och gick upp på berget för att be. 29 Medan han bad förvandlades hans ansikte och hans kläder blev skinande vita. 30 Och se, två män samtalade med honom. Det var Mose och Elia 31 och de visade sig i härlighet och talade om hans bortgång, som han skulle fullborda i Jerusalem. 32 Petrus och de som var med honom sov tungt, men när de vaknade såg de Jesu härlighet och de båda männen som stod där tillsammans med honom. 33 När dessa skulle skiljas från honom, sade Petrus till Jesus: "Mästare, det är gott för oss att vara här. Låt oss göra tre hyddor, en åt dig, en åt Mose och en åt Elia." Han visste inte vad han sade. 34 Medan han talade, kom ett moln och sänkte sig ner över dem, och lärjungarna blev förskräckta, när dessa trädde in i molnet. 35 Och ur molnet kom en röst: "Denne är min Son, den Utvalde, lyssna till honom!" 36 Och när rösten ljöd, visade det sig att Jesus var ensam. Lärjungarna teg och berättade inte vid den tiden för någon vad de hade sett.

Jesus botar en besatt pojke

37 När de dagen därefter kom ner från berget, möttes han av en stor skara människor. 38 Då ropade en man ur folkhopen: "Mästare, jag ber dig, hjälp min son! Han är mitt enda barn. 39 En ande sliter i pojken, och så skriker han plötsligt till. Den sliter i honom och fradgan står kring munnen på honom, och den vill knappast lämna honom och sluta misshandla honom. 40 Jag bad dina lärjungar att de skulle driva ut anden, men de kunde inte." 41 Jesus svarade: "Du fördärvade släkte som inte vill tro! Hur länge skall jag vara hos er och stå ut med er? För hit din son!" 42 Medan pojken ännu var på väg, kastade anden honom till marken och slet och ryckte i honom. Men Jesus talade strängt till den orene anden och botade pojken och gav honom tillbaka till hans far. 43 Och alla häpnade över Guds väldiga makt.

Människosonen skall utlämnas

Medan alla förundrade sig över allt som han gjorde, sade han till sina lärjungar: 44 "Lyssna noga till det jag nu säger: Människosonen kommer att utlämnas i människors händer." 45 Men de förstod inte vad han sade. Det var fördolt för dem, och de kunde inte fatta det. Och de vågade inte fråga honom om det han hade sagt.

Vem är störst?

46 Bland lärjungarna kom frågan upp, vem som kunde vara störst bland dem. 47 Jesus visste vad de tänkte i sina hjärtan och tog ett barn och ställde det bredvid sig 48 och sade till dem: "Den som tar emot det här barnet i mitt namn, han tar emot mig. Och den som tar emot mig tar emot honom som har sänt mig. Ty den som är minst bland er alla, han är den störste."

49 Johannes sade: "Mästare, vi såg en man som drev ut onda andar i ditt namn, och vi försökte hindra honom eftersom han inte följde med oss." 50 Jesus sade till Johannes: "Hindra honom inte. Den som inte är emot er, han är för er."

Jesus på väg upp till Jerusalem

51 När tiden för hans bortgång[b] var inne, vände han sitt ansikte mot Jerusalem fast besluten att gå dit upp. 52 Han sände budbärare framför sig, och de gav sig i väg och gick in i en samaritisk by för att förbereda hans ankomst. 53 Men folket tog inte emot honom, eftersom han var på väg till Jerusalem. 54 När hans lärjungar Jakob och Johannes såg det, sade de: "Herre, vill du att vi skall kalla ner eld från himlen som förtär dem?" 55 Men Jesus vände sig om och tillrättavisade dem. 56 Och de gick vidare till en annan by.

57 Medan de vandrade vägen fram, sade någon till honom: "Jag vill följa dig vart du än går." 58 Jesus svarade honom: "Rävarna har lyor och himlens fåglar har bon, men Människosonen har inget att vila huvudet mot." 59 Till en annan sade han: "Följ mig!" Mannen svarade: "Herre, låt mig först gå och begrava min far." 60 Jesus sade till honom: "Låt de döda begrava sina döda, men gå du och predika Guds rike!" 61 En annan sade: "Jag vill följa dig, Herre, men låt mig först ta farväl av min familj." 62 Jesus svarade: "Ingen som ser sig om sedan han har satt handen till plogen passar för Guds rike."

Jesus sends out the 12 apostles

9 Jesus asked his 12 apostles to come to him. He gave them power and authority. They could make sick people well. They could also send bad spirits out of people. 2 Then he sent them out to tell people about the kingdom of God. He told them that they should also make sick people well again. 3 He said to them, ‘Do not take anything for your journey. Do not take a stick, or a bag, or food. Do not take any money. Do not take extra clothes.[a] 4 In each town, continue to stay at the first house that you go into. Stay there until you leave that town. 5 In some towns, the people will not accept you. You should leave that place. Clean that town's dirt from your feet. Then it will be clear that they have done something wrong.’

6 Then the apostles started out. They went to visit all the villages. In every place they told people the good news about Jesus and they made sick people well.

A ruler hears about Jesus

7 People told the ruler, Herod, about all the things that were happening.[b] His mind was confused because people were saying lots of different things about Jesus. Some people were saying, ‘John the Baptist died but now he has become alive again.’ 8 Other people were saying, ‘It is Elijah that has come back.’ Some other people were saying, ‘This is one of God's prophets who lived a long time ago. Now he has become alive again.’[c]

9 Herod said, ‘I sent a soldier to cut off John's head.[d] So who is this man? I hear many things about him.’ After that, Herod was trying to meet Jesus.

Jesus feeds 5,000 men and their families

10 The 12 apostles that Jesus had sent out returned. They told him what they had done. Then he took them away from the crowd, so that he could be alone with them. They went to a town called Bethsaida. 11 But the crowds found out about this. So they went to find Jesus. When he saw the crowds coming, he welcomed them. He taught them about the kingdom of God. Some sick people were there and he made them well again.

12 When it was nearly evening, the 12 apostles came to Jesus. ‘There are no houses in this place,’ they said. ‘Send the crowd away now. Tell them to go to the villages and farms near here. Then they can get food to eat and they can find a place to sleep.’

13 Jesus said to them, ‘You should give them some food to eat.’

But the disciples said, ‘We have only five loaves of bread and two fish. Do you want us to go and buy food for all these people?’ 14 There were about 5,000 men in the crowd.

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Tell the people that they should sit down on the ground in groups. There should be about 50 people in each group.’

15 So they did this. When the people had sat down, 16 Jesus took the five loaves of bread and the two fish. Then he looked up towards heaven and he thanked God for the food. He broke the bread into pieces. He gave the pieces of bread to the disciples, and they gave the bread to the crowd. 17 Everybody ate and they all had enough food. They were not hungry any more. Then the disciples picked up the bits of food that people had not eaten. They filled 12 baskets with all the little bits of food.[e]

Peter says who Jesus is

18 One day, Jesus was alone and he was praying. The disciples came to him. Jesus asked them, ‘When the crowds talk about me, who do they say that I am?’

19 They replied, ‘Some people say that you are John the Baptist. Other people say that you are Elijah. And some other people say that you are one of God's prophets from long ago. They think that this prophet has become alive again.’[f]

20 ‘But what do you think?’ Jesus then asked them. ‘Who do you say that I am?’

Peter replied, ‘You are the Messiah. God has sent you.’[g]

21 Jesus spoke very strongly to them. He told them that they must not tell anyone about this.[h]

22 Then he said, ‘The Son of Man will have to suffer in many ways. The important Jews, the leaders of the priests and the teachers of God's Law will turn against him. People will kill him, but three days later God will cause him to become alive again.’[i]

23 Then Jesus said to all the people that were there, ‘A person who wants to be my disciple must not think about himself. He must decide that his own life is not important. Every day he must be like someone who carries his own cross to go and die. Then he may come with me as my disciple.

24 Whoever wants to keep his own life safe will lose it. But whoever gives his life to serve me will have true life. 25 A person may get everything in the whole world for himself. But if he loses his life, it would not be any good for him. He will have destroyed himself in the end. 26 You must not be ashamed of me and of my words. If you are, then the Son of Man will be ashamed of you. One day he will return and everyone will see his power. He will come with God's holy angels and he will have the bright glory of his Father God. He will be ashamed of you on that day, if you are ashamed of him now.’

Three disciples see how great Jesus is

27 Then Jesus said, ‘What I tell you is true. Some people who are standing here will see clearly God begin to rule in his kingdom. They will see that before they die.’

28 About eight days after Jesus had said these things, he went up a mountain to pray. He took Peter, John and James with him. 29 While Jesus was praying, his face became different to look at.[j] His clothes also became very white. They were shining brightly.

30 Then two men appeared and they were talking with him. They were Moses and Elijah.[k] 31 They were very bright to look at. They talked with Jesus about how he would soon die in Jerusalem. This was how God wanted him to leave this world.

32 While this was happening, Peter and his friends were sleeping. Then they really woke up and they saw that Jesus was very great and beautiful. They also saw the two men that were standing near to him. 33 Then the two men began to leave. So Peter said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, it is good that we are here. Please, let us build three huts. One hut will be for you. One hut will be for Moses and one hut will be for Elijah.’ But Peter did not really know what he was saying.[l]

34 While Peter was speaking, a cloud appeared. It covered them all. When the cloud came over them, the three disciples were afraid. 35 Then a voice spoke from the cloud and it said, ‘This is my Son. He is the one that I have chosen. Listen to him.’

36 The voice stopped speaking. Then the three disciples saw that only Jesus was there with them now.

They did not tell anyone at this time about what they had seen.

Jesus makes a boy well

37 The next day Jesus came down from the mountain with the three disciples. A large crowd met him. 38 A man from the crowd shouted to him. ‘Teacher, please, I ask you to help my son. He is my only child. 39 Sometimes a bad spirit takes hold of him and then he screams. The spirit throws his body first one way then another and water comes out of his mouth. The spirit gives him a lot of pain and it does not leave him alone very much. 40 I asked your disciples to send the bad spirit out of him. But they could not do it.’

41 Jesus said, ‘You people today still do not believe in God. You have turned away from him. I have been with you for a long time and still you do not believe. It is difficult for me to be patient with you.’ Then Jesus said to the man, ‘Bring your son here.’

42 While the boy was coming, the bad spirit threw him to the ground. It threw the boy first one way and then the other. ‘Stop!’ Jesus said to it. He then made the boy well and he gave him back to his father.

43 Everybody was very surprised at what they saw. They knew that God was very powerful.

Jesus speaks again about his death

The people were still thinking with surprise about everything that Jesus was doing. Then he began to talk to his disciples. 44 He said to them, ‘Do not forget what I am telling you now. Soon they will deliver the Son of Man to powerful people to kill him.’ 45 But they did not understand what Jesus had said. Its meaning was a secret to them, so they could not understand. But they were afraid to ask Jesus, ‘What do you mean?’

Who will be the most important?

46 Then the disciples began to argue with each other. They argued about which of them was the most important. 47 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he took a child and he made him stand there at his side. 48 Jesus said, ‘If someone accepts this child because of me, then he also accepts me. And anyone who accepts me also accepts my Father God, who sent me. The person who makes himself the least important among you is really the greatest.’[m]

49 John then said, ‘Teacher, we saw a man who was speaking to people that had bad spirits in them. He was saying, “Jesus says that you must come out.” We told the man that he must not do this. We said that because he is not in our group.’

50 ‘Do not try to stop him,’ Jesus said, ‘If someone is not against you, he is working to help you.’

People in a village in Samaria do not accept Jesus

51 The time came when God would soon take Jesus up to heaven. Jesus knew this, so he began to go towards Jerusalem. 52 He arrived near a village in the country of Samaria. He sent some people into the village with a message. They went to ask for a place to stay for the night. 53 But the people in the village would not let him stay there. This was because he was going to Jerusalem.[n]

54 Then James and John heard about what had happened. They asked Jesus, ‘Master, do you want us to ask God to send fire down from the sky? Do you want us to kill these people?’

55 Jesus turned round. ‘No!’ he said, ‘Do not do that. That would be wrong.’ 56 Then they all went on to another village.

What it costs to obey Jesus

57 They continued on their journey. A man came and spoke to Jesus. He said, ‘I will go with you. And I will go with you everywhere that you go.’

58 Jesus replied, ‘Wild animals and birds have their own places to live. But I, the Son of Man, have no place of my own to lie down and rest.’

59 Then Jesus said to another man, ‘Come with me!’ The man replied, ‘First let me go home and bury my father. Then I will come with you.’

60 ‘No!’ Jesus said, ‘Let people who are dead themselves bury their own dead people. You should go and tell people about the kingdom of God.’[o]

61 Another man said, ‘Sir, I will come with you. But please let me first go home to say “Goodbye” to my family.’

62 Jesus replied, ‘A man that ploughs a field must continue to look straight in front of him. If he looks behind him, he cannot plough well. People that look back behind them cannot work well for the kingdom of God.’

  1. 9:3 Jesus wanted those that he was sending out to trust him. The Holy Spirit would cause other people to give them what they needed.

  3. 9:8 Elijah was a man that spoke messages from God. He lived about 850 years before Jesus was born. God took Elijah up to heaven while he was still alive. See 2 Kings 2.

  5. 9:17 Only God could make five loaves of bread and two fish enough to feed 5,000 men and their families. This showed that Jesus' power came from God.

  7. 9:20 The people were waiting for God to send the Messiah. They thought that this person would save them from the Roman government. They thought that he would be a great soldier.
  8. 9:21 Jesus knew that the people had wrong ideas about the Messiah. So he wanted to teach them how God rules in the lives of his people. He wanted to show them this by his life and death. Only then would the people understand that he really was the Messiah.
  9. 9:22 Jesus told his friends what would happen to him. This is the first time that he told them.
  10. 9:29 Matthew says in Matthew 17:2 that Jesus' face shone like the sun.
  11. 9:30 Moses was a leader of the people of God. He died about 1400 years before Jesus was born. We can read about him in the book of Exodus. Elijah was a prophet who spoke messages from God. He lived about 850 years before Jesus was born. God took Elijah up to heaven while he was still alive. See 2 Kings 2.
  12. 9:33 Peter wanted these important men to remain on the mountain. That is why he wanted to build the huts. This would not have been the right thing to do.
  13. 9:48 Jesus' friends were thinking that a child was not important. Jesus showed them that a child is important to God. The way that they accept a child shows if they understand this. We should not think that we are more important than other people.
  14. 9:53 The people in Samaria did not like Jews to stay in their village.
  15. 9:60 The man wanted to wait until his father had died. Then he would follow Jesus. Jesus did not agree. He called people that did not obey him ‘dead’. Those people could bury someone that had died. Jesus needed people now to tell the good news about how God rules.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(A)(B)

9 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons(C) and to cure diseases,(D) 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God(E) and to heal the sick. 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.(F) 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5 If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”(G) 6 So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.

7 Now Herod(H) the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed because some were saying that John(I) had been raised from the dead,(J) 8 others that Elijah had appeared,(K) and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life.(L) 9 But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.(M)

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(N)(O)

10 When the apostles(P) returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida,(Q) 11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God,(R) and healed those who needed healing.

12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”

13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.”

They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” 14 (About five thousand men were there.)

But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them.(S) Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)(U)

18 Once when Jesus was praying(V) in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”

19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(W) others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”(X)

20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”(Y)

Jesus Predicts His Death

21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.(Z) 22 And he said, “The Son of Man(AA) must suffer many things(AB) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AC) and he must be killed(AD) and on the third day(AE) be raised to life.”(AF)

23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.(AG) 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.(AH) 25 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? 26 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them(AI) when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.(AJ)

27 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

The Transfiguration(AK)

28 About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James(AL) with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.(AM) 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure,[a](AN) which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy,(AO) but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master,(AP) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.)

34 While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen;(AQ) listen to him.”(AR) 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves and did not tell anyone at that time what they had seen.(AS)

Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy(AT)

37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him. 38 A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. 39 A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him. 40 I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.”

41 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,”(AU) Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”

42 Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.

Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time

While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44 “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”(AV) 45 But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it,(AW) and they were afraid to ask him about it.

46 An argument started among the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest.(AX) 47 Jesus, knowing their thoughts,(AY) took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48 Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.(AZ) For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”(BA)

49 “Master,”(BB) said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

51 As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven,(BD) Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.(BE) 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan(BF) village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John(BG) saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them[b]?”(BH) 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.

The Cost of Following Jesus(BI)

57 As they were walking along the road,(BJ) a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man(BK) has no place to lay his head.”

59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”(BL)

But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”

60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”(BM)

61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”(BN)

62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
